Collectors should be aware that there is a vast industry of faked Mexican antiques of a religious nature as there is of masks. I have visited workshops where dealers from places such as Santa Fe, New Mexico come with photographic images taken out of books and order exacting replicas. One such book shown to me was Images of Penance, Images of Mercy by William Wroth. It goes without saying that at least some of these objects will be passed off as old and rare.
