Huichol Wax - Cera de Campeche

Wax is available for purchase at $50. for approximately one kilogram or 2.2 pounds, plus shipping. Weights are not exact since they were weighed in Mexico on less than accurate scales.  One kilogram of wax is enough for approximately 4 yarn paintings which measure 2ft. x 2ft.  This is the same wax that I use on all of my art commissions with the Huichol and Tepehuano artisans.  This wax is specifically made for artisan use and is called cera de Campeche.  Ideal uses would be for school projects or other dealers seeking archival materials for their projects.

I have seen countless yarn painting over the years where the yarn was popping off because the wax had dried out.  Over several decades, this is to be expected to some degree because of the conditions under which the paintings are made and also the fact that over time, any wax will harden.  Almost all yarn paintings now produced are made with an inferior wax substance and it can be almost guaranteed that unless the buyer has the painting properly framed, that there will be a failure of the wax and a loosening of the yarn or beads.  This will usually happen sooner rather than later!  It is a lesson that I learned early on and is the reason that I provide all materials for my commissions.
